Clara Amelia Popko
Peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Clara Amelia Popko, widow of her first husband, the late George William Mason, and her second husband, the late William Popko passed away in her ninety-second year.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 21 at 1:30 PM with Wilma Shirriff officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Clara was born July 10, 1916, in Belmont, MB, daughter to Tom Henry Yeo and Eliza Randall (Hackett). She attended school in Belmont where she received her grade nine education. Clara married her first husband George Mason and they farmed in Swan Lake and Somerset from 1938-1945. George Mason, the father of her children, was killed in a hunting accident. Clara lived with her two children at her sister Ada’s home in Belmont until 1947, moved to Swan Lake until 1951, then moved to Portage. Clara married Bill Popko in 1967 and was once again widowed in 1987. She lived for many years in Portage before a disabling stroke found her placed in the Lions Prairie Manor. Clara enjoyed gardening, food preparation and spending time with family and friends. Predeceased by her parents; Tom Henry Yeo and Eliza Randall (Hackett), three brothers; Clarence, John, and Thomas (Wes), and eight sisters; Mary, Elizabeth, Alice, Charlotte (Grace), Millie, Cora, Sarah, and Ada, she leaves to mourn her passing her son Milton (Adele) Mason of Portage two grandchildren; Scott Mason (Carmella), and Deanne Mason two great grandchildren; Joshua and Gabriel, son Russell (Judith) Mason of Calgary, three grandchildren; Cal (Sandi) Mason, Andrea O’Brien, and Shari (Terry) Cox, three great grandchildren; Brittney Mason, Luke O’Brien and Claire Cox. She also leaves to mourn her passing sister-in-law Ethel Fox. She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
