Marjorie Grace McMaster
Peacefully on Monday, June 16, 2008 at Portage District General Hospital, Marjorie Grace McMaster, widow of the late George McMaster, passed away at the age of 82.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, Royal Road South at Dufferin Avenue, on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 1:30 PM with the Reverend Julie Baker officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery
Marj was born April 20, 1926, the second daughter of the late Arthur and Pearl Threadkill of High Bluff. Marj received her education at Cochrane and High Bluff Schools. After leaving school, she taught on “permit” for one year before taking a business course. On completion, she was employed by Portage Mutual Insurance Co.
On July 23, 1947, Marj married George McMaster and continued to work at Portage Mutual until 1950 when she and George purchased Rae’s Funeral Home and Furniture Store, subsequently working there and McMaster Funeral Home until 1973 then at the Omega Funeral Home for a short time.
She was a dedicated member of O.O.R.P. Lodge #66 Portage, Unit “A” of Trinity U.C.W. and a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Pink Lady at Portage District General Hospital and with the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
For 25 years, Marj and George enjoyed summer vacations at Clear Lake and winter trips to Hawaii and Bahamas. Her overwhelming kindness was shown by her love of baking for others and the special interest she showed to all who were family to her. Everyone who knew Marj was touched by her warmth.
Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Pearl Threadkill, husband George McMaster, sister Vera Greer, two infant brothers Stanley and Gordon, brother-in-laws Sam Greer, Earl Jordan, and nephew Brad Jennings.
She leaves to mourn her passing one sister Dorothy Jordan of Portage, brother-in-law Jack (Betty) McMaster of Portage, sister-in-law Helen (Jack) Jennings of Georgetown, Ont., nephews Kevin McMaster of Portage, Andrew (Wendy) McMaster of Winnipeg, Jackie (Michael) Podger of Kelowna, BC, John Jennings of Brantford, Ontario, David (Lynette) Jordan of Virden, niece Barb (Roger) Henault of Calgary, and nephew Ted (Lori) Jordan of Portage, great nieces, Heather Henault of Edmonton, Paula Jordan of Portage, Karli McMaster of Winnipeg, Shannon Jennings of Newmarket, Ont., great nephews Jamie McMaster of Winnipeg, Mark (Lisa) Jennings of Bracebridge, Ont., Michael (Heather) Jordan of Norway House, Scott (Blake) Jordan of Denver, Colorado, Brian Jordan of Central, Tyson (Erin Bullock) Jordan of Portage, and Gary (Victoria) Henault of Cold Lake, Alberta, great great nieces and nephews McKenzie and Katie Jordan of Norway House, Violet Bullock and Tristan Jordan of Portage, and Jacob Jennings of Bracebridge, Ont. Also, two very special girls Donna Mulligan and Cheryl Richkun, both of Winnipeg.
