As a very young man, he started working in a lumber camp in Ontario as a helper but wasn’t long before he had his own team of horse, something he was quite proud of. For many years after he spent time between farming with his father and the construction industry working on such projects as the St Lawrence Seaway, he worked on a project he didn’t find out till years later was the test pad for the engine of the now infamous Avro Arrow. After he married Dorothy, he ended his construction career working nights on the Portage Diversion, and started farming full time with his dad and later with his son’s and nephew. In his later years he could be found helping James with the cattle, that was his way of life.
Predeceased by his parents, Margaret & Bruce Williams, his sister Evelyn Flynn, he leaves to mourn his passing his wife Dorothy, two sons; Marvin (Alley & family) and granddaughter Brittany of Portage, James of Rural Portage, one daughter Maureen (Robert) Desjardin of Portage and grandchildren Tammy (Randy) Murray and children Whitney & Justin of Salmon Arm, BC, Sherri (Dave) Radford and children Kyle, Matthew & Tyson of MacGregor, and Laurie Saltise and children Braden & Brenden of Portage , Manitoba. He will be sadly missed by his nieces and nephews; Morley (Colleen) Flynn and family of Portage, Lynda (John) McNaughton and family of Alberta, Deanna (Bernie) Roy and family of Winnipeg.
Should friends so desire memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, Catherine Newham-Portage Office, 103 Wilkinson Crescent Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 1A7.
