Evelyn Farley
On Monday, July 7, 2008 at the Portage District General Hospital, Evelyn Farley of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Herbert Farley passed away at the age of 94 years.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Marg Scott officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery.
Evelyn was born on September 28, 1913, daughter of Bayard and Gertie Cook at MacGregor where she was raised and received her education. On July 31, 1937 she married Herbert Farley and they resided at Carberry for four years before moving to Portage la Prairie, where her husband was employed at the Portage Soda Water Works and later with Kitson’s Service Station. Here they raised their family of one son and one daughter.
Evelyn was an active member of her community and served with the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides for over 13 years. Her greatest enjoyment came from her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed entertaining and having friends over for a meal, a game of cards or dice. She enjoyed baking and would give it away to neighbors and friends.
Predeceased by her husband Herbert in 1975; four brothers Neil, Archie, Roy and Norman Cook; four sisters and their husbands Jessie (John) Gair, Edna (Clarence) Smith, Florence (Oscar) Nohlgren and Ethel (Reg) Smith. She leaves to mourn her passing one son Gerald (Linda) and grandchildren Shawna ((Kevin)Cromie and great grandsons Ryan and Kyle; granddaughter Michelle (Jason) Veitch all of Selkirk; one daughter Lynne (Daryl) Neild, grandson Robert (Kathy) and great grandsons Andrew and Charles; grandson John (Jolaine) and great granddaughter Cassandra; and granddaughter Suzanne, all of Calgary; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation Wednesday evening, July 9, 2008 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM.
