John Ginter

It is with great sadness that we announce that John Ginter has passed away at the Portage District General Hospital on July 11, 2008 at the age of 84 years.

Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 7 to 8 PM.

Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 2:30 PM.

Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

John was born on July 30, 1923 in the Horndean District to Margaret and Isaac Ginter. He served overseas in Germany in WWII with the Canadian Armed Forces. After the war, he moved to Portage and was employed with Manitoba Hydro were he worked for over 40 years. I t was here that he met and married Hazel Marks who have celebrated 54 years of marriage and raised their family of 5 children.

John was a founding member of the Grand Haven Lodge at Pipestone for several years. He was a lifetime member of the ANAF, Portage, and a member of the Portage Gun Club. He was also a volunteer firefighter for 17 years. Johnny enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, curling, camping.

Predeceased by his parents, brothers Ike & Corny, sisters Margaret and Alice, he leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Hazel, his daughters Marilyn (Lane), Debbie (Dennis), Sandra (Hank) Brenda, and his son Brian (Bonnie), grand children; Keri (Garth), Trevor (Kristin), Tyler, Corrie, Darnell, Marley, Justin, Tyler and Caitlyn. and great grandchildren Skylar, Sara. Also surviving are his brothers Dave (Kay), Ed (Rita) and sisters Chris (Henry), Mary, Evelyn, Alvena (Tom) and many nieces and nephews.

John’s love of life revolved around his family and friends. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
