Mary “May” Jane Boyachek

On Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Portage, Mary Boyachek, a long time resident of Rural Portage, widow of the late Harry Boyachek, passed away at the age of 96 years.

Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 2:30 PM with the Reverend Beth Kerr officiating.

Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

May was born on February 22, 1912, near Edwin, Manitoba to Margaret & Joseph Charlton. She was raised and received her education in the Rossendale, MacDonald and Salem Districts. After completing her education at PCI, she received her Associate from the Toronto Conservatory of Musicin 1934. She then began teaching piano in Portage and Oakville. In 1948 she married Harry Boyachek and they lived on the farm in the South Ridge District.

May was an adherent of Trinity United Church. Her interests included knitting, sewing, traveling, old time music, and country drives. Her special times were spent with her family and she especially enjoyed her birthday parties at Elkhorn.

Predeceased by her husband, her brothers Roy Charlton, Tommy Charlton, her sisters Olive Hunter & Pearl Charlton, she leaves to mourn her passing her son Allan (Shelley) of Rural Portage, her daughter Evelyn (Adam) Sedor of Dauphin, her grandchildren: Charlene (Peter), Andrea (Gord), Laurel (Oleg), Greg, Robin (Andria), her great grandchildren Gracey, Norah, Lanelle, Kathryn, Olivia, Lucas, Cailen, and Willow. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extrended family.
