Calvin Chaske
Peacefully, following a lengthy illness, with family at his side, on Sunday, July 27, 2008 at the Portage District General Hospital, Calvin Chaske of Dakota Plains Wahpeton Nation, beloved husband of Vinette Wahobin, passed away at the age of 72 years.
Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 2:00 PM with Grant Smith officiating.
Interment will follow in Dakota Tipi First Nation Cemetery.
Calvin was born June 1, 1936 at Old Sioux Village, Portage la Prairie, MB to Verna and George Chaske. He went to the residential schools in Portage la Prairie and Birtle. He worked at various locations and jobs including fairs, farming, pipeline, driving semi, air traffic control for the Canadian Armed Forces in Gimli, and most recently was a N.A.D.A.P. worker with Dakota Plains Wahpeton Nation.
Predeceased by his parents; one brother George Jr, and one sister Maggie Margaret Braun. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Vinette Wahobin; one son Winston Wahobin (Cindy); three daughters Waverly, Aldina (Paul) and Octavia “George”; sixteen grandchildren: Guylis, Kyle, Preston, Aaron, Jolene, Vinette, Georgette, Ashley, Jaden, Ocean Pearl, Cherish, Kia, Naomi, Storm, Nevaeh and Tania; three sisters: Helen, Maxine, and Beryl (Dan); and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Tuesday evening, July 29 from 7:00 – 8:00 PM
