Meegan Louisa Lumgair
April 14, 1976- March 8, 2010
“To be alive, yes, alive, but not be able to live it. Ay that's the rub. I am like a stone that lives . . . locked outside of all that's real” Anne Sexton
Meegan was born April 14, 1976 in Souris Manitoba. She loved to tell the story of being named after a character in mom’s harlequin romance book that she was reading at the time. She was born the second healthy, beautiful, daughter to Murray and Alita Lumgair. A very dear sister to Becke and Andria. She leaves to mourn her mom and dad Murray and Alita Lumgair of Portage la Prairie. Her big sister Becke (Kelvin) McMullen of Killarney, and baby sister Andria (Robin) Boyachek of Portage la Prairie. And Very Special Nieces Cailen and Willow Boyachek (Portage la Prairie), Quinn and Sawyer McMullen of Killarney. She also leaves behind Granddad Bob Shelton of Ashern, Grandpa R.O Lumgair of Morden, and many Aunties and Uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her Grandmother Isobel Lumgair. And the love of her life Dennis Perkins.
She was raised with her Mom and Dad and was the cream filling of the daughters in our family. She spent her childhood growing up in a small town called Pilot Mound where she made and valued many of the lifelong friends she met there, a member of the “FAB 5 group”. She often talked about Pilot Mound as home but had big dreams of getting out of there and becoming a dental hygienist. Meegan started out as a dental assistant, she loved and had a lot of talent working with small children and putting them at ease. She had many families follow her to her different places of employment just so she could clean their children’s’ teeth.
There is a quote that says “When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.” Well this is true, but, to us Meegan was always a treasure. Now that we are past all the formalities we are going to try this in a way
Meegan would love. Meegan had a real love for children as previously stated. She always jumped at the chance to spend some time with her nieces. She fought very hard to make it to all of the special moments in their lives. She spoiled them with gifts whenever she could but mainly the memories her nieces have of her is the time she spent with them. Her imagination, energy, and love shone through her when she was with her nieces. And because of that they have many treasures of their Auntie Muggins.
Animals naturally flocked to her she had a calm sense about her that attracted them. If she was in a house with animals she had a hard time getting around because they would be under toe, on her lap or pretty much just following her around. In turn she loved them with all she had. Her very special cat Carmel and her Basset Hound Maggie awaited her visits and walks. They will sit patiently waiting for her we have no doubt. They always understood when we told them Muggins was coming.
Meegan and her sisters all sounded very much alike. Confusing people on the phone was fun at the best of times. The only thing we needed to pay attention to was how we worded things. All three had a different way to answer the phone (Hiya, Howdy, or Hey), and mastering this was important. Our giggles were the same. The girls in this family are all known for their giggle. Even as I read comments on Facebook the one thing that is mentioned the most is her famous giggle. And it’s true it’s unforgettable. She had a wicked and well timed sense of humor that usually brought out that giggle. Becke recalls Meegan beating her with a goodie hair brush. (Sorry I missed seeing that one). Meegan was always there to hang out with and go shopping with or to just pick up the phone and talk with. She was everything a sister should be. Special!
She always had to remind Dad (while plugging her nose and in an operator type voice) begging him to open a window while he smoked his pipe. Mom told her once while hanging up wrinkly shirts that the wrinkles fall out on the floor. My sister Becke remembers Meegan telling mom her floor was all wrinkly. I also think mom and dad will always remember her as the good kid. And she was so we have no problem giving her this credit. When something happened in the house that no one wanted to take credit for we all had our answers. Becke- “OOPS” Andria- “I didn’t mean to”, And Meegan’s answer was always, “Becke or Andria did it.” She was amazing in her studies, smart as could be. They didn’t have to worry about Muggins growing up, she had a good head on her shoulders. She worked hard at being the best person she could be with friends and family. All you had to know was if you messed with one Lumgair you had to deal with the others. Short and Feisty sums it up.
We have told you what we loved about her, but what did Meegan love? Meegan loved her family. Meegan love to cook weird foods that always ended up tasting very good. Meegan loved to make sure everyone was taking care of their teeth properly. Meegan loved movies and was very good at quoting and remembering who was in what, with who, what year and what director. She also loved music. Any kind of music. She loved being active, bike riding, snowboarding, cross country skiing, walking, hiking, getting outside and playing. She loved learning and school even when it was hard to do.
Meegan would not want us to be sad. Meegan would want us to be happy and enjoy our lives and children, she will forever speak to us in memories, and movie quotes, and song lyrics.
As I left Mom and Dad’s today Meegan, Brad Paisley’s song came on and I said out loud. “O.K Muggins I hear ya”
“Yeah when I get where I'm going, there'll be only happy tears. I will shed the sins and struggles, I have carried all these years. And I'll leave my heart wide open, I will love and have no fear. Yeah when I get where I'm going, don’t cry for me down here”
Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funearl Home on Monday, March 15, 2010 at 2:00 PM
If you should so desire donations may be made in Meegan’s name to the Winnipeg Humane Society or any no Kill shelter. Or any charity of one’s choice. |
