Gladys Helen Smith

Peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Gladys Helen Smith of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Donald Smith passed away at the age of 91 years.

Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at 1:30 PM.

Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Gladys was born on July 9, 1918 daughter of Peter and Lena Anderson at Kelliher, Saskatchewan where she was raised and received her education. She was employed in Regina for several years and in 1937 she moved to Portage la Prairie and was employed in the Burnside District. In 1942 she married Donald Smith and they resided in Portage. Gladys had been employed at Kitson’s Service Station, at Sally’s and later at Eaton’s.

Gladys was an adherent of the United Church.

She had been a member of the Women’s Institute for over fifty years. She was also an avid bowler and curler.

Predeceased by her parents, her husband Donald, brothers: Ed, Herb, Kelly, Roy, sisters: Ada, Minnie, Violet, Ruby, Mabel and Frances. She leaves to mourn her passing her sister Doris (Andy) Chester of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Helen and the rest of the Smith family for all their support and kindness that they have shown Gladys and also like to thank the staff at the Lions Prairie Manor and Sunset Palliative Care for the care Gladys received while she resided at the Manor.
