Edith Maud Ferris (Hadfield)
January 12, 1910 – April 6, 2010
After a long fully lived life that gave great joy and happiness to many, Mom went to be with Her Lord and Saviour.
Born Edith Maud Hadfield to Frank and Edna in Killarney, Manitoba she was the second eldest of seven children, Blanche, Edith, Harvey, Charlie, Phyllis, Wilfred and Don. After graduating high school she came to Portage and trained at the Manitoba School now called the Manitoba Development Centre. There she met Dad, Clement Allen Ferris. Dad’s family, Vincent, Norma, Mildred, Mabel, Ida, Robert and Don, and all the nieces and nephews, were as important to Mom as her own. They were married during the war and spent time serving in Ontario and Vancouver. They came back to farm at Macdonald Manitoba then to Portage where Dad was an electrician and Mom nursed.
They have two children, Aubrey (Valerie Kerr) Ferris, of Winnipeg, grandchildren Len (Claire) Chambers, Chris (Cindy Chung) Ferris, Ottawa ON, Jill Ferris (Shane Gempler), Altona MB and Elaine (Lenard) Sulima, grandchildren Melanie (Dave) McMurray, Lethbridge AB and Jeff (Jennifer Gujer) Sulima, Calgary and great grandchildren, Kimberly and Melissa Chambers, Joel, Nathan and Janelle McMurray. Honourable mention to Jay Smith who lived with us for many years growing up and considered unofficially adopted. Mom and Dad retired to Calgary where they both lived out the rest of their lives, with many trips to Portage la Prairie, Winnipeg and Vancouver to visit their many family members and friends. Their lives were centered around their church, fiddle contests, music with friends and many, many, meals at their home, always with someone who needed a friend or was alone. Four generations celebrate her life with the loving and fondest of memories.
A celebration of Mom’s life will be held at First Baptist Church, 102 3rd Street SE Portage La Prairie (204) 857-6380 on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Prospect Cemetery at 2:00.
