Yula Susan (Armstrong) Balanyk

Yula Susan Balanyk, 84, passed away peacefully May 10th, 2010 at the Lion’s Prairie Manor, Portage la Prairie.

She was predeceased by her husband Steve. Yula was the youngest and last surviving sibling of Stewart and Mabel Armstrong’s family. She was predeceased by Hazel (John), Coates, Wilfred (Jean) Armstrong, Marjorie (James) Harvey, Lesley (Ruby) Armstrong, Ada (Bill) Joiner, Laurie (Bob) Dixon and Myrtle (Allen) Ferris.

She was born in Broomhill, Manitoba, September 18th, 1925. At a young age she moved to Souris where she grew up and received her education. She worked at the C.P.R. Station at the lunch counter and later worked as a telephone operator. She met Steve Balanyk while working at the station and they were married November 9th, 1951.

Steve became a station agent and they moved to several Manitoba locations. They have resided in Portage la Prairie for the last 30 years.

Yula did volunteer work wherever she was living. She was an avid Quilter.

She leaves to mourn many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of the Lion’s Prairie Manor for their care and compassion.

Funeral service will be held in the McKenzie United Church, 85-11th ST NW, Portage la Prairie, on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 2:30 PM.

Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
