Gerald “Gerry” Stanley Hill

Peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the Portage District General Hospital Gerry Hill of Portage la Prairie, Manitoba passed away at the age of 80 years.

A reception will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 8, 2010 from 3 to 5 PM.

Gerry was born November 28, 1929 son of Rowland and Elsie (Mason) Hill in the RM of North Norfolk. He was raised and received his education in Portage. He worked as a parts man for most of his life at Mayfair Motors, Christianson John Deere, Tecza Motors; he then worked for BACM in Northern Manitoba and Whitehorse. He returned to Portage and worked for the city, retiring in 1997.

He was an avid outdoorsman, loved fishing, hunting and cars and was a very capable mechanic.

Gerry was predeceased by his parents, one brother Alec, one sister Joyce Townsend, two brothers-in-law Alfred and Tony and one sister-in-law Leona. He leaves to mourn his passing on son Roland and wife Nancy of Winnipeg, granddaughter Meredith (Jeff) Rempel, grandson Nathan Hill, three brothers Dennis, Ben (Elsie) of Portage, Gordon (Betty) of Kelowna, BC., two sisters Elsie Buchinsky of Portage and Jean (John) Goolia of Winnipeg.

He will be lovingly remembered by his long time companion Betty Barain and her family.
