Arthur (Art) Sylvester

Peacefully, with family at his side, on Friday, July 16, 2010, at the Portage District General Hospital, Art Sylvester, of Edwin, MB, beloved husband of Mary Sylvester, passed away, at the age of 89 years.

Funeral service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 2:30 PM with Wilma Shirriff officiating.

Private family interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Art was born April 10, 1921, son of Joe and Chrissy Sylvester at Carman, MB. He was raised and received his education in the Tobacco Creek and Allandale School Districts. He then helped on the home farm. In 1948 he married Mary Fast and they took over the farm in 1950, continuing to farm in the Allandale District until his retirement in 1986. They continued to reside on the farm and Art helped out during the spring planting and fall harvest. Art was a member of the Rossendale United Church and was an active member of the Allandale, Edwin and Rossendale districts. In his early years he had a keen interest in the farm and agriculture. After his retirement they enjoyed camping and traveling and made several trips to the Yukon and Alaska. He had a great sense of humor and never missed the opportunity to tease, especially the grandchildren.

Predeceased by his parents; brother Bill; sister Alice Blair and infant sister Ethel, Art leaves to mourn his passing his wife Mary; sons Cliff (Janice) of Killarney and grandchildren Shelby and Cole; Ron (Connie) of Edwin and grandchildren Kaitlyn and Jonathon; Larry (Mary) of Wawanesa and grandchildren Matthew (Jody) and great grandchildren Jackson and Austin; Ken, Dave and Jennifer; daughters Linda (Don) Roy of Edwin and grandchildren Darryl (Marion), Shelley (Cory) Costanzo and Bonnie (Robbie) Kerr and great grandson Nicolas; Lisa of Edwin and granddaughter Kristen; Sally (Terry Everard) of Treesbank; sister-in-law Anne Sylvester of Brandon; two nephews Robert (Pat) and Gary (Brenda) Sylvester; and several other nieces and nephews.
