Adrian Cornelius VanAert

On Friday, July 30, 2010 at the Portage District General Hospital, Adrian VanAert of Portage la Prairie, MB, beloved husband of Hendrika “Rita”, passed away at the age of 78 years.

Prayers will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, August 3, 2010 at 7:00 PM.

Funeral service will be held in Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Father Eric Giddins celebrant.

Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.

Adrian was born on August 8, 1931, son of Johanus and Maria VanAert at Breda, Holland where he was raised and received his education. During the war years he resided with his parents in Holland until 1948 when his parents immigrated to Canada along with his four brothers and two sisters. The family settled at St Eustache where they were employed as farm laborers for three years. He then was employed in the construction industry in Winnipeg. In 1957 he married Hendrika Traa and they resided at St Andrews where he was employed with the Selkirk Rolling Mill where he worked until 1974. He then purchased a farm in the Gainsborough district where they farmed until 1995. They then moved to reside in Portage la Prairie to spend their retirement years. Adrian had just recently moved into the Lions Prairie Manor and had enjoyed his brief stay while there. Adrian was a member of the Good Shepherd Parish and was an active member of the 3rd and 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus council #4250 and #4150. He was an active member of the Kozy Corner and served as the recording secretary for several years. He thoroughly enjoyed all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His interests included hunting, fishing and especially gardening. He enjoyed many contented hours at Kozy Corner playing bingo, cribbage and whist with his many friends.

Predeceased by his son George; sister Jean (George) Overwater; sister Reit; and brother Jake. He leaves to mourn his passing his beloved wife Hendrika “Rita”; five sons: John (Doris)and children Melissa, Kathleen and Carey; Richard (Susan) and their children Evan, Garrick (Sara); Adrian (Bonnie); Paul (Patty) and children Braden and Madison; and Neil (Diane) and their children McKenzie and Jordan; two daughters: Regina (Paul) Lapratte and their children Chantale (Malachi) Enns and their children Dominic, Logan and Sawyer; and Daniel (Robin); and Marilyn (Danny) and their children Ashley and Amanda; three brothers: Henry, Cornelius (Enn) and George (Corie); sister, Kathy (Fred) Vangompel; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
