Albert (Bert) Paul Joseph Fries

            Peacefully at the Portage District General Hospital on Sunday, August 21, 2016 Bert passed away at the age of 79 years.

         He is survived by his wife Una of 55 years and his children son Lorne of Portage, daughter Kerri (Rod) of Virden, son Carl (and his wife Lisa) of Winnipeg and son Mark of Portage and his granddaughter Veronica of Winnipeg. Bert is also survived by one sister Chistine Kinney of Prince Rupert B.C.; brother Jerry of Portage; sisters-in-law Eva Tickle, Eileen McLennan and Loraine Dack; brothers-in-law Ed (Mary) Dack and Johnny Anthonisz as well as many nieces and nephews.

            Bert is predeceased by his parents Jerry & Mary Fries; sister Alice Anthonisz; brothers-in-law Glen Kinney, John Dack, Richard Tickle and Don McLennan.

          Bert was employed at Reas’ Cleaners, Ralph’s Department Store and Big 4 Sales. In 1962 he became a volunteer at the Portage Fire Department and in 1965 became a fulltime employee. After his retirement in 1995, he worked at Wal-Mart for 14 years. Bert enjoyed spending time with his family, being at his trailer at Delta beach, traveling and taking small road trips.

            Thank you to the medical staff at PDGH for all of their care and kindness.

            Up until the end dad loved visiting with the guys at the fire hall. (Thank you for all of your patience)

            Memorial Service was held Friday, August 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church with Father Gerald Langevin officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date.
