Alphonse (Toots) Charles Corneillie

            It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Alphonse (Toots) Charles Corneillie on December 30, 2016 at the Portage District General Hospital.

            Funeral service will be held in the MacGregor United Church on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Austin Cemetery.

            Alphonse was born August 3, 1925, son of Alphonse and Elizabeth Corneillie, at Joliette, North Dakota. At a young age the family moved to Canada and settled in Ile des Chenes, MB, where he was raised and received his education. He was then employed as a farm labourer at Ile des Chenes, Rosewood and in 1963 he moved with his parents to farm in Austin, MB. Retiring from the farm in 1968 they moved to reside in Austin. In 1987 he became a resident at Austin Senior Citizens Residence.

            He was a member of the Austin United Church. He centered his life on the family farm and home. His activities included working at Sprucedale Industries. He especially enjoyed woodworking and finishing furniture.

            Predeceased by his mother Elizabeth in 1956 and his father Alphonse in 1988, brothers Gaston and Rene, Alphonse will be deeply missed by his beloved brother Robert and his wife Lillian, sisters Katherine McCracken and Elizabeth Lagimodiere, and many nieces and nephews.

            The family wishes to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff at the MacGregor Personal Care Home who provided Alphonse with excellent care over the last twelve years. Also, we send a thank you to the doctors and nurses of the Portage District General Hospital who have cared for Alphonse this past year.

            Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
