Gerald Ernest (Ernie) Askin

           Gerald Ernest (Ernie) Askin passed away suddenly at home June 16th, 2017. He was predeceased by his wife, Lil in 1982, his youngest daughter Donna in 2000, and his wife Phyllis in 2015.

Ernie was born January 12th, 1928 and was the youngest son of Tom and Clara. He was predeceased by siblings Julia, Leonard, Arnold, and Miriam.

          He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Susan (Bill) of Regina; sons Tom (Liz) of Winnipeg, and Greg (Valerie) of Burnside; grandchildren Jamie, Nicole, and Cayly; son-in-law Ralph of Portage, and sister Mabel of Winnipeg .

          He will also be missed by Phyllis’ daughters Joy (Dale) and Maureen (Murray); their families, and Phyllis’ siblings.

Ernie grew up on the family farm at Burnside which he farmed from 1950 until his retirement.

          He was an active member of the community serving on many boards in Burnside and Portage.

          Ernie enjoyed curling, dancing, golf, welding, and general machinery repairs.

          Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, June 22, 2017 at Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba at 1:00 p.m. with Beth Kerr officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

          In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
