On Friday, January 8, 2016 Gordon William Pedden passed away at Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie, at the age of 90, surrounded by family, after a lengthy struggle with Dementia.

Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 1:30 PM with the Reverend Father Gerald Langevin celebrant.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

Gordon is survived by his wife Yvonne, and their sons Gary of Vernon, British Columbia, David (Pauline Johnson) of Falher, Alberta; and Mark (Kristina Olineck) of Edmonton, Alberta; their daughters, Lynn (John) Purvis, Lori Pedden of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Julie (Herschel Fogelman) Pedden of Toronto, Ontario. Nephews Ken (Colleen) Barcley of Souris, Ernest (Wahl) Calgary, Alberta, and nieces Beverly (John Peters), Betty Barcley, Evelyn (Walter) Radomski.

Gordon was born in Winnipeg on September 7th, 1925. He was raised and schooled in Elva Manitoba and he then joined the Navy. Following his discharge, he returned to Elva where he was employed by the Russell family who ran a grocery store. Eventually he found work with Pool Elevators.

In 1953 he married Yvonne Loiselle of Bellview, Manitoba. A small home was erected for the loving couple. In 1960 the family were moved to Purvis, Manitoba, only to be moved again a few years later to Boissevain, Manitoba.

In 1970 Gordon left the grain business for an insurance position with Co-operators in Portage la Prairie. A family business was soon established under the name Portage Realty and Insurance. Eventually the agency was passed on to his eldest son Garry upon retiring in 1995.

Gordon’s greatest passion in life was baseball which he played fervently until Dementia took over his life. He was admired for his countless home runs and his ability to hit a ball long distances. He was also active in curling, and golf. He loved to dance and faithfully watched the Lawrence Welk show on Saturday nights.

Gordon was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at Lions Manor who provided care for our Dad for many years.
