Henry “Moon” Elbert Mullins

            Henry Elbert Mullins (affectionately known as “Moon”) passed peacefully with his wife by his side on December 13, 2016.

            Moon was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, U.S.A. February 24, 1938 and later relocated to Macon, Georgia where he graduated from Leneer Boys’ High School and Mercer University. Moon served in the National Guard for 9 years and later worked for a cattle magazine to put himself through university. Inspired by the words of John F. Kennedy Moon joined the Peace Corps and went to Tikri, central India. There he met the love of his life, Patricia and they were married on September 2, 1967.

          Following the Peace Corps, Pat and Moon moved to Melbourne, Australia where he taught English in Maribrynong High School, Gladstone Park High School and Essendon Grammar Middle School. After Pat and Moon moved back to Canada in 1987, he taught at Melita High School. Extremely well-read in subjects from World War II to Shakespeare, poetry and politics. Moon’s strong personality and professionalism earned the respect of his students.

            Over the years Pat and Moon traveled fairly extensively and enjoyed many trips through Canada, the U.S. and Europe.

            Moon is survived by Patricia, his wife of 49 years; son Lt. Col. Christopher (USAF), daughter-in-law Tomoe, grandson Ryujin; and by his daughter Jennifer and son-in-law Jason Brown and their two children Maggie and Liam. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Grant Reid and his wife Audrey and sister-in-law Mary Wilford and many nieces and nephews.

            Memorial Service will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with Rev. John Zondag officiating.
