September 26, 1919 ~ April 20, 2016 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Ivy Bergquist

Peacefully, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, in the arms of the ones she loved, Ivy Bergquist passed away at home at the age of 96.

Memorial Service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 3:30 PM with John Hardman officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date.

Ivy was born September 26, 1919 (or maybe the 21st), the youngest of five children in Newdale, MB. Her childhood was difficult, but she showed amazing resilience and didn’t let it stop her from becoming a wonderful and strong woman. She remained loving and warm and raised a family that treasured her so deeply.

She married Albert Bergquist on January 26, 1944. Together they raised Sharon and Maxine on their farm in MacGregor. Ivy designed the house and Albert built it for her. Ivy loved her house so much- no kitchen cupboard could ever compare. She held the hope that soon Albert would build her home again in Paradise.

In 1983, Albert built their home on Spruce Bay where many fond memories were shared. Ivy moved in 1993 and continued to live a very full life at the home of Maxine and Darryl- gardening, cooking and entertaining. She resided here until her passing.

On August 14th, 1970, Ivy dedicated her life through baptism as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She had a very strong faith in the paradise to come and the resurrection hope. She made many happy memories sharing her beliefs and her love of Jehovah God with others. She formed many lasting friendships with those she associated with throughout her faith community. Her meek, patient and humble approach helped many to gain knowledge of the wonderful truths outlined throughout the Bible.

She had a love of reading, cooking and gardening. Even when her health made it difficult to do these things, she instructed others how to do it properly and made lists of what she wanted done.

Ivy’s world was her family. The past few years, despite failing health, she was actively engaged in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always was willing to share a recipe, a gardening tip, a polka dance and never missed an opportunity to play with the kids. She aged, but never got old. She was a source of wisdom for all of us and always had a listening ear and a warm hug to give. She loved all her family unconditionally and without reserve. Even to the age of 96, she remained a true and genuine friend to many.

She was predeceased by her husband Albert (1985) and great grand-daughter Lilianna Ivy (2015). She is loving remembered by her daughters: Sharon (Bob) Ferguson and Maxine (Darryl) Mutcher; her grandchildren Scott (Jodi) Ferguson, Robin (Dave) Bailey, Linda Poole (Brent Dane), Bekki (Stu) Stone, James (Danica) Mutcher, Emily (Mike) Gray, Katie Mutcher and Samantha Mutcher; and her great grandchildren: Tegan, Taryn and Rhett Bailey, Orrin and Caleb Mutcher, Grace, Emma and Ben Stone and Tessa Gray.

She touched so many people’s lives and filled them with joy, laughter and love. There was never a day that she wasn’t told how much she was loved and treasured. Until the fulfillment of Revelation 21:3,4 when “death will be no more” and we will be together again in Paradise.

The sadness is pain

But the sleep is gentle

And soon is the waking
