Linda Jean (Chammen) Boyachek

Linda Jean Boyachek (nee Chammen) 

Surrounded by her family, Linda Jean Boyachek (nee Chammen) passed away on December 13, 2016. Linda was born to William and Phyllis Chammen on January 1, 1953.

She resided in Portage la Prairie before building a home outside of Portage with her husband where they raised two children. They operated Boyachek's Berry Farm for 20 years despite her distaste for strawberries. Linda worked many jobs throughout the years, including at CFB Southport, the DND, the Portage Co-op, and the Portage School Division. As a canteen operator she followed her daughters through their school years from Crescentview to Arthur Meighen, and later at PCI until her retirement. Years later, students and staff remember her lemon chicken and still request her granola bar recipe.

Linda had a great (sometimes sarcastic) sense of humour. She was very generous with her time and talents, and was always willing to help friends and family. She was skilled in sewing, knitting, crotchet, cross-stitch, and was a self-taught soap maker who shared her home-made creations at farmers markets and craft sales.

Some things that brought Linda joy were travelling with her husband, picking peas in her garden, bickering in the kitchen with her daughters, playing bingo with her sister, and hosting family celebrations. She recently hosted “Christmas in September” and was happy to spend time with her sister from Florida.

Linda is survived by her husband of 41 years, Alfred, daughters Chelsea and Jessica (Steve), grand-daughter Lena, sisters Beverley (Rory) Cousins and Shirley (Ken) Barker, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours.

A come and go celebration of Linda's life will be held on Saturday, January 14th at the PCU Centre from 2-4pm.
