Nicholas “Nick” Piontkowski

Peacefully on January 10th, 2016 Nick Piontkowski, beloved husband of the late Jean Piontkowski, passed away at the Portage General Hospital at the at the age of 97 years.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday Jan 16th, 2016 at 10:30am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption. Interment will follow at Hill Side Cemetery.

Nick was born on December 18, 1918 son of Mathew and Mary Piontkowski in the eastern Ukraine where he was raised and received his education. He then helped out on the family farm. In 1940 he joined the Russian Army and served during the Second World War. In 1945 he married Jean Malkioski and they resided in Germany. In 1950 they emigrated to Canada settling in Portage La Prairie. He was employed with the Canadian National Railway as a section man retiring in 1977.

Nick was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was a very active member of his church and served as an alter server and an assistant to the priest for many years. He was a former member of the AN AF Veterans Unit #13.

Nick enjoyed working around his home and especially his garden spending many countless hours there.

Nick was predeceased by his parents his wife Jean and is survived by his 2 Sons Steven (Phylllis) and John, grandchildren Cathy and David, great grandchildren, Bryson, Pricillia, Beth, Dawn, Nicholas and Brady, two sisters and one brother in the Ukraine.
