Robert Duncan “Dunc” Lamb

After a life well lived, Dunc passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the Portage District General Hospital.

Memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday, November 27, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Following a reception, interment will take place in the family plot at Beaver Creek Cemetery.

Dunc is survived by his wife of 68 years Beverley, son Terry Lamb (Sandra), grandson Kevin Lamb (Heather) grandson Brent Lamb and great granddaughter Emmy; daughter Susan Lewis (Murray), grandson Adam Lewis (Becky) and great grandson Holden, and grandson Dale Lewis (Chelsea); daughter Julie Halfdanson (Russ). Dunc is also survived by his cousin and best friend Merlin Lamb. He was predeceased by his father Samuel Robert (Bob) Lamb; mother Elizabeth (Lizzy) Lamb; cousins Doug Lamb, Keith Lamb and Chris Mowat.

Dunc was born and raised in MacGregor, Manitoba. After high school he attended Angus Business College before joining the Navy in World War II. In the Navy he served as a radar operator on an aircraft carrier in the North Atlantic. After the war Dunc returned to MacGregor and joined his father in the SR Lamb & Son Solo Store. Dunc and Bev sold the store in 1970 and Dunc then worked in the office of the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie until he retired in 1988.

Dunc enjoyed a long and eventful retirement curling, golfing, traveling and spending treasured time with family and friends. Spinal Stenosis caught up with him in the last few years and limited his ability to participate in social activities.

The family wishes to thank all of the people who offered help and support to Dunc as his health faltered. We also want to thank the staff of the Portage District General Hospital, especially the staff of the Extended Treatment Unit. Dr Lewis, the nurses, aids, physiotherapy, occupational therapy housekeeping and all the behind the scene people provided a very caring and compassionate atmosphere.

Flowers are greatfully declined. Donations may be made to the Beaver Cemetery Perpetual Fund, the Portage District General Hospital Foundation, 524 Fifth St S.E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3A8 or a charity of ones’s choice.
