Catherine Anderson Obituary

Catherine Lynn Anderson

Catherine Lynn Anderson (Chesla) passed away December 22, 2019 at home with her family by her side after a long, painful fight at the age of 62.  Cathy was predeceased by her parents; Phillip and Victoria, brother Bob, in-laws; Walter and Grace, brothers-in-law Ken and Jack and sister-in-law, Phyllis.  Cathy will be lovingly remembered by her husband David, daughter; Jennifer (Chris) Barber and their children Chloe and Miah, daughter; Kristen (Dustin) Hildebrandt and their children Ethan, Victoria and Rowan, siblings; Fran (Rick), Cheryl, Ron (Anne), Carol (Brad), in-laws; Kathy, Wayne (Sharon), Keith (Heather) and Chris, special cousins, uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Cathy was born September 14, 1957 in Paris, Ontario.  She spent her early years there where she met her life-long friend, Darlene. Her family moved to Portage in 1971 and Cathy met David the following year, at age 15.  The two were together ever since.

Cathy held different jobs throughout the years, but being a full time mom to Jennifer and Kristen was what was most important to her.  She devoted her life to her children and husband, and later to her grandchildren, who she loved more than anything.  She never missed a volleyball or hockey game, a rifle competition, a swim show or a dance recital.  If her grandkids had something on, she was there supporting them.

To say she was talented would be an understatement, from making Halloween costumes for her girls and her grandkids, to crocheting many treasures.  She was best known for her cake decorating skills, there was nothing she couldn’t do.  She was often called upon by family and friends to make cakes for birthdays and weddings, and could never say no.   She would spend hours making sure things were done right, a true testament to her stubbornness.

Mom loved to watch curling with Dad.  She was not shy about who she was cheering for and would complain if her teams lost.  Mom loved camping and fishing which she did quite often in her younger days.  Most of all, Mom loved to spend time with her family and close friends, especially if there was a competitive game of cards to be played. She was happiest when everyone was gathering together and was always teased for having too much food.  You never left her house hungry.

Cathy endured a lot of health challenges, especially in the past year.  Her family would like to thank Dr. Finney and her Home Care nurses.  Another thank you goes to Edith, who helped out Mom and Dad lots in the last 7 months.  Most importantly, we want to Thank our Dad, who loved Mom unconditionally and was with her every step of the way.  An amazing example of True Love.

A Come & Go Celebration of Life will be held in honour of Cathy on Saturday, January 4th, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Rossendale Community Hall.  A longer obituary to follow.
