Evelyn May Bergson

On Saturday, February 18, 2017, peacefully at home Evelyn May Bergson of Portage La Prairie passed away at the age of 85 years.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home with Rev. John Dolloff officiating.  Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.

Evelyn was born May 2, 1931, daughter of Jack and Mary Louise Hogue at Silver Ridge, Manitoba where she was raised and received her education.  She helped on the farm and on September 30, 1950 she married Harry Bergson.  They farmed and fished in Amaranth, raising their 5 children.  In 1972 they moved to Langruth where they operated a family restaurant.  In July of 1996 they moved to Portage La Prairie to retire. 

Evelyn loved music, could play any instrument and always listened to CFRY’s Polka Party every week.  She enjoyed visiting with friends and family who would stop by to share stories and always loved a good joke.

Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Harry in 2002, daughter Noreen Mozdzen in 1989, grandson Kevin Turko in 1976, parents Jack and Mary Louise, and 11 brothers and sisters.  She is survived by her children Diane (Jim) Thompson of Brandon, Val (late Perry) Turko of Alonsa, Brenda (Rene) Duchesne of Portage La Prairie, Leland (Angie) Bergson of Winnipeg, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren.  She will be missed by brother Raymond, many nieces and nephews and good friends Barry & Adrienne.
