Joseph (Joey) Norman Wilfred Moffat
It is with sadness that the family of Joe Moffat announces his passing on April 5th, 2018 at Portage la Prairie, MB at the age of 64.
Joe was born in Rossburn, MB on October 25th, 1953 to Earl and Pauline Moffat. He attended Elementary School in Rossburn until 1968, when his family moved to Portage la Prairie. After a short time working at the Manitoba Developmental Centre, Joe moved to Portage ARC Industries work shop where he spent many happy years employed in the wood working department. His many friends at the workshop, the “People First” organization, Special Olympics, Games Night Group and the members of the Highway Tabernacle Church were all very special to Joe. He thoroughly enjoyed reading, watching hockey, football and wrestling. Music, especially Doc Walker, Stompin’ Tom, Elvis and the Beatles, was a big part of Joe’s life as well.
Joe has been predeceased by his parents Earl and Pauline and his brother-in-law Nelson Pearce. Left to cherish the happy memories Joe brought to his family are his sister Dawn Pearce, niece Jody, nephew Gary (Lori); his sister Pat (Glenn) Pitcher, nieces Heather Bidzinski (Colin) and Shannon (Dirk) Pitcher as well as four great nieces and three great nephews alongside his girlfriend Debbie Dubois.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to all of the caregivers at Cochrane and St. George houses for all their loving care and kindness bestowed upon Joe during his life while residing there and his final year at the Lions Prairie Manor. Sincere gratitude is also extended to everyone at Portage ARC Industries, People First, Special Olympics and Games Night. All should be considered Honorary Pallbearers.
A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Friday, April 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie, MB. Interment to follow at Hillside Cemetery.
