Marlene LaCroix Obituary

Marlene Sheryl LaCroix

We, the family of Marlene, are saddened to inform her loved ones – family, friends, extended family in TOPS and parish of St. Mary’s Anglican Church of her passing.
Mom was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents Arthur & Kathleen Thomas.  Mom lived a life that was tough, as they did not have much money.  But we know how much her siblings loved her and how much she loved them too!
When Marlene met Lou her world was spun into love for a man that was a hard working, fun person.  Lou took her north to Lynn Lake where they started a family together; a son who was lost before birth, their children; Dena LaCroix and granddaughter Rowan of Trenton ON, Christina Ringuette (Gabriel) and granddaughter Vanessa of Petawawa ON,  Neil LaCroix (Angela) and grandsons Carter and Colby of Keswick Ridge NB, Liana LaCroix (Fiancé Luke Marion) of Waltham PQ.
Mom's passion for volunteering started early in life, and continued throughout her life with contributing to a bake sale just before she went into hospital this last time.  During Mom's life here on earth she thrived at being a great house wife, a good farmer who worked diligently in the gardens growing food for canning and freezing while the grain crops grew.  Mom then became the owner and operator of a long time local sewing business.  Selling, fixing and mending up a storm to keep food on the table for their own 4 kids, plus all the friends we brought home as Mom's extra kids.
Mom's friends in the North, Poplar Point and Portage became family, not only to her, but to all of her children as well.  We will miss so many names in this list but Iris, Peggy, Simone, Thelma & Lawrence, Jeanette & Ozzy, Alma, Hilda, Bernice & Morris, Sheri, Irene and Diane are just but a handful of "family" to us because mom was "family” to them.  As well, forever helpful and caring to Mom, our Aunty Janet and Uncle Gene.

Marlene loved people! Mom was opinionated, oh yes she was.  She could tell you about all the news and her views on it at the coffee shop.  But Mom still loved people who were good and kind.  She gave to others who she thought needed it more than she did.
Her goal in life to see her grandchildren graduate from high school will not happen the way she wanted it to, but now she can see from Heaven, with Lou beside her, along with all the glorious achievements that are yet to come.
Marlene is predeceased by her loving husband Lou, her Mom & Dad, step-dad Sven, and her brothers Bill, Danny, and her sister Joan.
Marlene will be honored during a Celebration of Life at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie, MB with Reverend John Dolloff officiating.  A time of fellowship and lunch will follow in the Magnolia Room at Omega Funeral Home.  Should friends so desire, at Mom’s request, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Arthritis Society of Manitoba or St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Portage La Prairie.
Mom is in peace with God, and back with Lou.
