Mildred (Lusk) Smith

September 21, 1915 ~ October 19, 2013 (age 98) 98 Years Old

Mildred Smith
Peacefully, on October 19, 2013, Mildred passed away at the Lions Prairie Manor, her home for the past 10 years.  She had just turned 98 years old in September.
Funeral service will be held in McKenzie United Church on Friday, October25, 2013 at 1:30 PM with Reverend Marg Scott officiating. Private family interment will take place at Hillside Cemetery.
She was born on September 21, 1915, the daughter of Charles and Ester Lusk.  They lived in the Overhill District where Mildred and her brothers and sister attended school.  She worked as a housekeeper until her marriage to Harold Smith in 1939.  They lived and farmed in the Dale District for 30 years.  In 1968 they moved from the farm to 16th Street SW in Portage la Prairie.  They spent many happy years with their neighbours who became special friends instead of “just neighbours”.
Mildred worked at Marr Fashions for 13 enjoyable years and loved to dance, play cards, do ceramics and cook for her family.  She and Harold traveled to Arizona for 13 years and made many wonderful friends.  She was also a member of the Royal Purple for over 50 years.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved her special times with each and every one of her family.  It didn’t matter when called upon, she could always go down to the freezer and find cookies, a cake or muffins to serve unexpected guests and was in her glory when called upon to do so.  She was well known for her “famous” butter tarts and was always delighted when asked to make them for special occasions.
She will be lovingly remembered by her son Ken and fiancé Hazel; grandchildren Leanne (Chris), Jason (partner Tracey) and Kyle (Sonya); great grandchildren Brenden, Jeremy, Jamie and Ben; daughter Sally(Gerry) Mastaler; stepfamily Guy (Nicole), Madison and Ava; Lance (Lucy) Savanna and Ethan; sister Muriel McInnes of Calgary and her very special nieces and nephews.
Mildred was predeceased by her husband Harold, daughter- in-law Pat, brothers Clarence and Walter and baby sister Elva, sisters-in-law Gladys and Annie and parents Charles and Ester Lusk.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Lions Prairie Manor for the wonderful care given to our mother for the many years she lived there.  We will fondly remember so many of you for going above and beyond your everyday duties to spend a little extra time with her and for all the hugs and kisses bestowed upon her by all of you.  Thank you.
Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mildred’s memory to the Lions Prairie Manor Foundation Inc., 24 – 9th St S.E., Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 3V4 or to a charity of your choice.

God Bless you Mom, Rest in Eternal Peace Forever. We love you and will miss you always.
