Richard Kowerchuk Obituary

Richard Brian Kowerchuk

Peacefully on Fri. Dec. 6th, Richard Kowerchuk passed away at the age of 66.  He is survived by his daughter Ginger (husband Doug, daughters Julie and Breanna), his brothers Harvey (daughters Valerie and Rhonda), Tommy (daughter Andrea, son Steven), George (son Kelly), Dennis (wife Mona, daughters Nicole and Samantha), James (wife Anita, daughters Tawnee and Alexa), and one sister Donna (husband Danny, daughter Terrah-lee).

We are so sorry to say good-bye to our brother, uncle and friend Richard. What can we say about him? He was not only the most generous and kind-hearted man you could ask for, but he was also the man who could keep his brother Jimmy's blood pressure escalated for days! Their on-going daily sparring matches were a source of constant amusement and extreme frustration all at the same time.  Jim always said keeping Richard on his toes was a full time commitment, but he only said it with complete love and concern for his brother. Jim cherishes these past months when he finally got him home.

He was so very proud of his only daughter Ginger. He was always excited when he told us about their texts and phone calls, and was looking forward to a visit with her this summer. He often told Jim how thankful he was that his nieces Tawnee and Alexa looked after him. His brother George lovingly kept on his case as well. His calls of advice were also a source of aggravation for Richard, but he knew he was acting in his best interest. We as family and friends can tell numerous stories that can make us cry with laughter. The famous "hockey helmet story" never gets old.  His mischievous grin and laugh will never be forgotten.

He loved movies, clothes, shoes, pizza and tattoos. He loved his daughter, his brothers, his nieces and his friends, especially Ronnie Asham, who has taken him around and kept him company since he came back home. Thanks Ronnie, for being his buddy. He was loyal, fierce, street-wise, and God-loving. His love for those close to him was powerful and unconditional. He was just a solid individual.  Richard, we are heart-broken that you're gone. We can only hope you left us knowing how much we loved you. Rest in peace dear bro, until we meet again.  We're gonna miss ya.

A private family gathering will be held in the spring. If anyone so wishes, donations can be made in Richard's name to the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba, 1031 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg Manitoba, R3G 0R8 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 1379 Kenaston Blvd, Winnipeg Manitoba, R3P 2T5.
