Amy Rebecca Thomas (nee Brock)
November 4, 1948 – September 14, 2015
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce that Amy Rebecca Thomas (wife, mother and sister) passed away at home surrounded by loved ones after a brave battle with Salivary Gland Cancer. She leaves behind her life partner and love William Horace Thomas, her beloved 3 children Christopher William Brock Thomas, Shawna Laine Rebecca Thomas, Randy Douglas James Thomas, their esteemed spouses Jacqueline Anna Wilson and Shelley Ann Skoryk Thomas; her dearly loved grandchildren Joshua James Thomas, Keara Amy Ann Thomas, Noah Adam William Thomas, Nolan Parker Stanley Thomas (No No’s), Dylan Christopher Steve Thomas and Darian William Brock Thomas. Amy, the daughter of the late Wilfred John Stanley Brock (Stan) and Gladys Rebecca Brock (nee Lewis) is predeceased by her sister Marlene Shaw, and 2 brothers Ernie Brock, Wilfred Brock and their respected families. We are at peace knowing that Amy’s spirit is free and clear; she has transitioned and returned home to reunite with her father and mother.
Amy was born and raised in High Bluff, MB. She met her true love William in her high school years and later married October 26, 1968. They moved briefly to Winnipeg to pursue career interests but were drawn back to their home roots in Portage la Prairie where Amy worked as an LPN for the majority of her career caring for the elderly. She was a philotherian, a quiet, kind, compassionate, and gentle person who loved spending time with her children and their families. There was nothing more Amy liked better than an interesting one on one conversation with members of her family and their spouses regarding hobbies, leisure pursuits, life-long dreams, and a fascination for items that caught her eye.
There are tears in our eyes we can wipe away, but the aches in our heart will always stay. Amy may be gone yet not forgotten, although we are apart, her spirit lives within us, forever in our hearts. We are empowered to move forward knowing Amy Rebecca Thomas will walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near, and her gracious spirit will be constant in our life journey. Welcome to your final awakening Amy, our beloved mother, wife, grandmother and sister. May you be blessed to find comfort in the hands of Angels.
A private celebration of life will be held with Amy’s immediate family and friends at their home, Saturday, September 19 from 2:00 – 5:00 PM with a formal program and prayer at 4:00 PM. We would be extremely grateful for donations to a local SPCA, adoptable animal shelter or to a Palliative Care Facility. Our sincere and extended appreciation to Barb Jones and other volunteers who visited often and shared conversation and home care staff-you each contributed significantly to our mother’s quality of life. Our deep appreciation to Dr Lewis and Dr Woelk and the Palliative Care staff for their compassion, support and expert care.
Condolences may be sent to the family c/o Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road South, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, R1N 1T8, 1-800-303-4621 or friends may leave a message of sympathy on our web site www.omegafuneralhome.com “Dedicated to those we serve”.
