Anna Mary Spruyt
On Monday, November 1st, 2021 at the Portage & District General Hospital, with family by her side, Anna Spruyt passed away at the age of 91 years.
Anna was born on March 31st, 1930 in Holland, daughter of Theodorus and Margaretha (Breij) Nederend.
Mom was raised and received her education in Holland. She married Jacob Spruyt and in 1954 immigrated to Canada. They settled in Castor, AB before moving to St. Laurent, MB where they farmed until 1975, then moving to reside in Portage la Prairie.
Mom was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, knitting and needle point. She lovingly gave hand made articles to each of her family members. Mom generously donated many crocheted blankets to hospital patients. Her special times were spent with family and grandchildren.
Although Canada was her home, Mom missed her family in Holland and would return frequently to visit.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband, three brothers, two sisters, and many sisters and brothers-in-law, she leaves to mourn her seven children; Margaret (Roy) Nagam, Jack (Leona) Spruyt, Ted (Cindy) Spruyt, Ron (Lynore) Spruyt, Joannie Spruyt, Jeannie Spruyt, Ken (Bonnie) Spruyt, 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mom is survived by one sister, Sjanie Westland in Holland and one sister-in-law Kuni Spruyt in Canada, along with numerous relatives in Canada and Holland.
The family would like to thank the staff on the surgical ward at the Portage Hospital, Dr. Finney and the staff at her home in Regency House in Portage la Prairie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Sask. Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB. R1N 0K8 or Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St., Winnipeg, MB. R3B 1M3.
