Brian Douglas "Red" Henry
Brian passed away suddenly on September 19th, 2021, at the Portage & District General Hospital at the age of 71 years.
He will be dearly missed and mourned by his wife Debbie, sisters; Pat (Larry), Sharon (Keith), Charlene (Doug), brothers; Wayne, Rodney (Donna), Stewart (Keri), sisters and brothers-in-law; Jim (husband of the late Margaret), Audrey (wife of the late John), Evelyn & John, Durwin, Fred, Norma, and Janice. Also left to mourn are his 10 nephews and 5 nieces – Laureen Green being an extra special niece.
Brian was pre-deceased by his mother and father Helen and Gordon, sister Margaret, brother John, brother-in-law Ken, nephew Leslie, his mother-in-law Doris Buchy and father-in-law Donald Buchy.
Brian owned and operated Red’s Autobody for many years, first in Portage la Prairie and later in the RM of Portage where everyone knew him as Red. He took pride in making the vehicles he worked on as good as new. He enjoyed restoring cars for customers as well as his own. He first restored a 1956 Ford Victoria and then a 1964 Ford Mercury convertible. His long-term project was a lowered truck, which he was asked about constantly and unfortunately unable to finish.
After his retirement Brian took a part-time job at Western Bearing delivering parts in the rural areas. He enjoyed the friendship of his co-workers immensely.
He was a long-term member of the Vintage Cruisers Car Club of Portage. He liked nothing better than going on road trips with the gang, whether it was for a day or weekend, and he considered many as family.
Brian passed away on the home opener of the Portage Terriers, which he had season tickets for going back 40 plus years.
Every Saturday it was lunch at Jimmy’s with Dave Verwey and friends. He also enjoyed to BS with his coffee buddies at Tim Hortons.
In accordance with Brian’s wishes, his family will celebrate his life privately.
In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Portage Terriers, Box 33, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3B2.
