Ralph Byron Arksey

Byron, with his family at his side, passed peacefully in the early morning of Tuesday, February 4 th, 2020 at the age 93.

Byron was born at his family home in Langruth on July 2, 1926 to his parents William and Sigridur (Sarah) Arksey. He helped out on the family farm until 1945 when he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery and served as a gunner until the end of the war.

Byron and Margaret (Bosworth) we’re married on December 6, 1950. They were married 59 years until Margaret’s death on June 8, 2010.  They purchased land west of town, where he and Margaret made their home and raised their family.

In June 1994 they retired and made their home in Portage La Prairie until July 2011 when he moved to Brandon. He lived in Hobb’s Manor for 9 years until his death.  In his retirement he enjoyed sports fishing, wood working, gardening, and taking care of his home.

He was not only a farmer but a commercial fisherman with his brothers. Dad was always someone you could call on with question, or as we said, COD (Call on dad ). There wasn’t anything he couldn’t make, fix, or provide information on.
