Harvey Wayne Jack

     It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Harvey Wayne Jack on December 24th 2018, age 84 years, at the Portage District General Hospital, peacefully with family by his side.

     Harvey is survived by his wife Kay, sons; Kim (Jean): Glen (Barb) grandchildren, Shania and Cindy: Ralph (Denyse) grandchildren, Katlyn and Dylan: Carleton (Michelle), grandchildren Devon and Janine.  Along with several nieces, nephews and step-grandchildren.

     Harvey is predeceased by his parents Gordon and Mary, brother Irvin and sister Donalda.

     Harvey was raised in the Hood School District with his two siblings. He received his education at Hood School, where he was dared to ride his horse through the school, to which he had to write 1000 times on the chalkboard and scrub the floors!!  As a young boy he would drive a team of horses to town to sell wood. Later as a young man he did odd jobs as a farm hand and worked on the railroad.

     Harvey met his wife to be Kay Switzer at baseball game at Overhill corner in 1954. They were married February 21, 1959. Made their first home at Old Bridge Road and later moved to Gainsborough area in the spring of 1962 where they raised their four boys.  Harvey and Kay had milk cows for approximately 50 years milking by hand till the last few years when they purchased milking machines.

     Harvey first worked as a night fireman attending boilers at CFB Portage then becoming an electrician for the next 32 years where he retired.  In Harvey’s later years he enjoyed helping the boys with haying, cutting wood, playing cards, especially crib, but most of all spending time with his grandchildren creating many fond memories.

     The family wishes to express their sincere thank you  to Dr. Omichinski, Dr Ross, to all the Nursing Staff, and Health Care Aides at the Portage District General Hospital for the wonderful care.

     In keeping with Harvey’s wishes a private graveside service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Harvey to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 - 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB or Central Plains Cancer Services, 318 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB  R1N 0K8.
