Kathleen Sczesny Obituary

Kathleen Sczesny

Peacefully on February 22nd, 2018, Kathleen passed away at the Lion’s Prairie Manor with family at her side.

Mom was born in Glenella, MB on November 2nd, 1924, to Michael and Marie Palczak,  the eldest of 8 siblings.  She married John Sczesny on October 12, 1946 and they farmed in the Rossendale District until the family moved to Portage la Prairie in 1963.  After Dad passed in 1998, Mom remained in her home until March 17, 2015 and at the age of 90 years began residency at the Lions Prairie Manor in Portage la Prairie.

Kay was an active member of the CWL at St. Hyacinth’s Church and Good Shepherd’s Parish.  Mom was well known for her perogy’s and cabbage rolls.  Her recipes were tried by many but mastered by few.   She always looked forward to visitors.  With mom being so thoughtful and caring towards others, seldom did anyone leave empty handed.  Over the years mom’s tradition was to have the family together at Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving.

Kay is survived by her children; Greg (Nathalie) of Brandon, MB, Carol (Bill) Copp of Portage la Prairie, Evelyn (Mike) Golembioski of Winnipeg, her nine grandsons; Derek, Jason, Trevor, Matthew, Karl, Adam, Burt, Cory, Blake and her 10 great grandchildren.   She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen was predeceased by her loving husband John, her siblings; Frank, Stanley, Henry, Elsie Zedan, Frances Krunek, Evelyn Turko and Sophie Ostopowich.

Prayers will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Road S., Portage la Prairie.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 1125 Saskatchewan Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB.

The family wishes to thank Father Gerald Langevin and a sincere thanks and appreciation to all the staff of the Lion’s Prairie Manor for their care, patience, kindness and compassion.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of ones choice.
