Lenard Robert McLaughlin

     Peacefully entered into rest in the early hours of May 28th, 2022 at Third Crossing Manor, Gladstone, MB at the age of 91 years. 

     The first son of Walter Mack and Margaret (Bales) McLaughlin on August 21st. 1930, Lenard was born at Edrans, MB.  At age seven the family moved to Amaranth to homestead where he lived all the rest of his life.

     Leonard married Eleanor (Gibbs), June 10th, 1976 and became a husband, step-father and step-grandfather all in one day!  As a young man he worked at various jobs to help maintain the farm. Planting crops, raising hogs and cattle was his life.

     In retirement gardening became his past time to the point of a market garden. Growing; raspberries, strawberries, corn, potatoes, cucumbers and tomatoes both for sale and giving away. He planted his last garden spring of 2021.

     At Third Cross Manor, Leonard hoped to see the leaves out on the trees one more time. He got his wish, as he loved nature; feeding the birds, listening to them sing, watching them in the sky and seeing his deer that lived in a bush by his house. All who knew him will deeply miss him, those who loved him always will.

     Left to mourn his passing are; sister Marlyn (Frank), nephews, nieces and cousins, step-family; Gerry (Kathy) Allen (Helen), Lenore and their families, along with Uncle Ralph and Auntie Pat. 

     Predeceased by his wife Eleanore, parents, brothers;  Douglas and Morley, sisters-in-law Suzanne and Marie; step daughter Rae-Ellen, step-grandson Billy and grand-nephew Clinton.

     The family sincerely thanks the neighbours for their concern and help the past months while Lenard was living in his own home. The meals hot out of the oven, and the cinnamon buns Leonard enjoy, house cleaning, phone calls and visits all before he would accept home care.

     Thank you to Portage & District Hospital and Gladstone Hospital staff, EMS, and the Third Crossing Manor staff.

     Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 8th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Rd. S., Portage la Prairie, MB.  Refreshments, dainties and fellowship will be available prior to the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. 

Internment to follow at Amaranth Cemetery, Amaranth, MB.
