A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, August 28, 2015 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
She was born on October 15, 1944 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1950. She graduated from high school at Portage Collegiate Institute and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1965 and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Manitoba in 1967.
While teaching high school at Arthur Meighen in Portage la Prairie, Linda met the love of her life Jack Shwaluk. They married on July 5, 1969 and eventually moved to Virden, Manitoba where Linda and Jack owned and operated the Country Side Inn motel.
While living in Virden, they were blessed with a son, John Lindan Shwaluk, in 1978. Linda put her career on hold after moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba in order to focus all her attention on being a loving and supportive mother to John.
The family moved to Pine Falls, Manitoba in 1990 where Linda resumed her career as a teacher-librarian at Sagkeeng High School. Upon concluding her career, Linda was able to enjoy a long and relaxing retirement.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jack; son, John (Tricia); mother, Elsie Snider; sister, Judith O’Shaughnessy; brothers in law, Ernie and Len Shwaluk; sister in law Eileen (Tony) Hunt and numerous nephews, nieces and great nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her paternal and maternal grandparents, her father Gordon Snider, in-laws Kathleen and Michael Shwaluk, sisters in law Lisa and Eleanor Shwaluk, and brother in law Lawrence Shwaluk.
Linda was highly respected by everyone she befriended. She was a dedicated housewife, exceptionally well read, extremely knowledgeable in a huge array of topics, a sincere and loyal friend, a great mother and a loving and devoted wife. She touched countless lives as a dedicated teacher, and her love of her family and generosity will live on in our hearts forever.
Donations in her memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation in lieu of flowers would be appreciated.
