Margaret Brown Obituary

Margaret Duncan Brown

Peacefully, on March 5, 2022 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Margaret Duncan Brown passed away at the age of 95 years.

Margaret was raised on the family farm in the Sough Ridge District and completed her education in a one room school.  She started her working career at the Portage & District General Hospital as a receptionist.  From there she went to work at the Inter-City Gas Company for 33 years until her retirement.  Margaret then returned to the family farm until health sent her to live at the Lions Prairie Manor.

Margaret has a large garden and would can from it.  She was an avid bowler, loved a good game of cards and attending old-tyme dances, but her love of baking and cooking was her calling.  She was well known for her home made buns and butter-tarts in the community.  She loved cooking for family, friends and neighbours.  If you stopped for a visit you always had to have a cup of coffee and your pick of cookies, cake and dainties.  She loved taking a full meal to the field for whoever happened to be helping brother Eddie.  There were always two kinds of dessert to pick from.

She travelled to Newfoundland, BC, Alaska, Scotland and to many places in the United States.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents Jack and Jessie (Duncan) Brown, her siblings; Annie (Grant) Dalrymple, Jack (Mary) Brown, Mary (Ralph) Macaulay, Edward “Eddie” Brown, Harold (Fay) Brown, nephews; Leslie Brown, Wayne Macaulay, Garry Macaulay, Karl Brown, Kyle Braybrooke, nieces; Candace Macaulay and Bev Macaulay.

Left to cherish her memory are her nieces and nephews; April Hearn, Arnold Brown, Janice Brown, Graham Brown, Lionel Brown, great-nephews Justin (Brea) and their daughter Rowyn, and Austin (Dawn).  Along with many other great- nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family would like to thank the staff on Walker Road at the Lions Prairie Manor for the exceptional care given to Margaret while residing there.

A private family service will be held.

Should friends so desire donations can be made to the Maple Grove Cemetery, Site 42, Comp 9, RR 3, Portage la Prairie, MB   R1N 3A3.
