On Sunday, November 15, 2015, Marianne Kate “Kae” Stewin, of Portage la Prairie, beloved wife of William “Bill” Stewin, passed away at the age of 92 years.
Predeceased by her mother, father and two brothers Henry Martin of Portage, Samuel Martin of London Ontario. Kae is survived by her loving husband William (Bill) Stewin, one brother John Martin of Nanaimo, B.C., one sister Rosemarie Ventura of Ottawa, daughter Peg (Jim) Sanders, granddaughter Holly (Clayton) Smith, grandson Josh Sanders (Lindsay More), step granddaughters Jackie (Marc) Sharpe and Barb (Wes) Braun, great grandsons Scott Smith, Eric Smith, step great grandson Matt Sharpe, step great granddaughters Nicole Sharpe, Sara Braun and Stephanie Braun.
Born in Portage La Prairie December 28th, 1922, she was orphaned at a young age and being the oldest of the family of five children, Kae took an active part in helping raise her younger siblings. She lived all her life in Portage where she and husband Bill were very active in the community. During her working career she was employed by five photographic studios, where her artistic talents were put to good use. At Christmas time she spent many sleepless nights working on photographs so that people would have their gift orders on time.
Kae served on the executive of the ten pin bowling league for many years. At the same time she coached young bowlers and encouraged in them a love for the sport.
In 1992 she and Bill joined the Portage COPP program and were extremely involved in all aspects of the program for 15 years. The couple also took ballroom dance lessons and many weekends you could find them and a group of close friends kicking up their heels at the local dance halls.
Kae had a flare for many artistic hobbies, among them were: oil painting, ceramics, paper tole and painting all of Bills woodworking. She loved cooking, baking and many times she would send meals to family and friends in need.
She loved to spend time on the phone chatting and visiting with friends and especially enjoyed visits with her daughter, grandson, granddaughters and their families.
She spent many hours in her yard tending to her flowers and rose garden. Kae also found joy being curled up in her chair cuddling one of her beloved cats whom she treated as family.
At Kae’s request there will be no funeral service.
Because of Kae’s great love for animals, donations may be made in her memory to Portage Animal Welfare Society (P.A.W.S.) Box 1426, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3N9, in lieu of flowers.
