Melrose "Mel" Georgina Carlson

     It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Melrose Carlson on Sunday, August 4th at the Portage General Hospital.  Mel was predeceased by her husband of 54 years Edwin, son Allen, parents Fredrick and Amelia Bray, brothers Russell and Gilbert and sister Inez Roberts.

     Mom's memory will be cherished by her partner Ray Bruneau, daughters; Arlene, Carol (Paul) Rand, Karen, Judy, Charene and her son Don (Lou Ann).   Also her grandchildren, Devin (Candace) Rand, Marvin Dyck, Andrew Read, Elizabeth, Kevin and Brian Carlson and great grandchildren Shane and Brendan Unrau and Olivia Rand.

     Mom was born on September 6th, 1933 and raised in Oakville, MB.  During a teaching position in Menisino, MB, she met and married Edwin Carlson. Mom accompanied Dad on his military postings to Comox, Germany, Saskatoon, Rivers and Portage la Prairie.  Settling in Portage she worked for many years at Holiday Retreat and with Home Care. She was very involved with Girl Guides of Canada and supporting her local Legion. Mom’s hobbies included; quilting, crocheting, bead work, dancing and reading a good book.

     A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 65, 275 Duke Ave on Thursday,  August 8th at 3:00 pm (upstairs hall).  Interment will follow lunch at the Oakville Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Portage Service for Seniors, 165 Sask. Ave. E., Portage la Prairie, MB  R1N 0L7 or Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200 – 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3L 2T4.
