Peacefully, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, Phyllis Irene Askin, beloved wife of Ernie Askin, passed away at the Portage District General Hospital, at the age of 89 years.
Predeceased by her parents Jack and Lorna Rintoul; her first husband, Calvertt Sawyer; infant son Earl Sawyer; step daughter Donna Shortridge and 4 brothers. Phyllis leaves to mourn her passing: her husband Ernie; daughter Joy (Dale) Birchard of Mossbank, Sask, and their children Terry (Dawn), Todd (Wendy) and Dale; daughter Maureen (Murray) Gourley of Edwin, MB and their children Allana (Tim) Boschman and Darren (Cristie) Gourley; 2 step-sons Tom (Liz) Askin and their daughters Nicole and Cayley and Greg (Val) Askin; Step-daughter Susan Caskey (Bill); great grandchildren: Trent, Ashton, Shailyn, Devon, Cassandra, Dawson, Joel, Khanlee, Jeremy, Kaylan and Brandon; step grandson Jamie Bates; great-great grandchildren Blake and Tristan; 5 brothers: Lorne Rintoul (Colleen), Wayne Rintoul (Betty), Danny Rintoul (Louise), Eldon
Rintoul (Gina) and Kenny Rintoul (Pat); 2 sisters: Maxine (Helmut) Schroeder, and Vivian (Harley) Henry; and sister-in-law Mabel Grant, Edna Rintoul several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Monday, December 28, 2015 with Beth Kerr officiating. Congregational Hymns were “In the Garden” and “Abide with Me” with Audrey MacFarlane playing the piano. Candle lighters were Allana Boschman & Christie Gourley. Active pallbearers were Darren Gourley, Tim Boschman, Trent Boschman, Ashton Boschman, Wilfred Pilkington and Ralph Shortridge. A private family interment followed at Hillside Cemetery.
