Pietro (Peter) Sottile

            Peter Sottile beloved husband of Netty, died Sunday, November 6, 2016 at the Portage District General Hospital at the age of 83 years.

            Peter was born May 26, 1933 in Belvedere Marittimo, Cosenza, Italy. He came to Canada in 1950 and married his wife Netty on November 15, 1958. Peter and Netty have one son Vincenzo and one daughter Janet.

            Peter worked as a plumber in Thunder Bay in his early days and due to circumstances moved to Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1970. Peter found employment at M.D.C. for 23 years as an attendant and enriched the lives of the residents and became father of the year. In 1993 Peter retired from M.D.C.

            Peter loved spending his summers basking in the sun at their cottage in Delta Beach, MB. He enjoyed family get togethers and making sure everyone was fed and happy.

            Peter will always be remembered as a kind and selfless person with a smile that would melt your heart and was loved by many.

            Peter will be lovingly remembered by his wife Netty; son Vincenzo (Donna); daughter Janet (Corey); grandson Santé; sisters Annie Vasanelli and Mary Polhill (Brian); brothers Jerry, Danny (Barbara), Santé (Irene) all from Thunder Bay, Ontario. As well as extended family Sjaan & Reinland Kirchner, Corrie Smith, John Wagemakers all of Portage la Prairie, MB; Tony & Betty Wagemakers of White Rock, B.C. and Tonny Wagemakers of Winnipeg, MB and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

            Peter was predeceased by his parents Vincenzo & Francesca Sottile; special mother-in-law Adriana Wagemakers; brother Aldo Sottile; brothers-in-law Pietro Vasanelli, Charles Smith and Piet Wagemakers; sister-in-law Loretta Sottile and nephew Danny Sottile.

            A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in the Magnolia room at Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, MB. Interment will be held at Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie, MB.
