Rita Adele Marie Hiebert

         On June 25, 2020, Rita Adele Marie Hiebert (nee Gregoire) passed away peacefully in her sleep after a short illness. She was 92 years old. Rita was born in Somerset to Rodolphe and Marie Gregoire (nee Back). A lifelong resident of Manitoba, Rita lived in Somerset and St. Marks with her parents. In 1949 she married Lawrence Allan Hiebert and resided in Winnipeg and St. Marks again before settling in Portage la Prairie in 1968. In 1974, they built the house that she lived in till her hospitalization in June of 2020. Rita was the mother of 5 children and her greatest joy were her grandchildren.  As they were growing, she was a willing caregiver when needed even if that meant a weekend trip to Kenora or a longer trip to Alberta. Rita’s next favorite passion was listening to local talent and dancing at the local Legion or Army and Navy.

        Rita is predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Lawrence Allan, her brother Andre, sisters Claire and Andriette, and granddaughter Leanne. She leaves to mourn her sisters, Yvette and Agnes, her sons, Richard (Rita), Randall (Roberta), Roxy (Geraldine), daughters Lana (Tom) and Lyla (Mel), grandchildren Ramona, Rachel, Heather, Roxanne, Rylan, Stephanie (Mike), Stephen, Darien (Spencer) and Dae-Lynn and several great and great great grandchildren.

         Due to the pandemic restrictions there will be a private ceremony. Close family and friends can contact immediate family members for information on restrictions and options to pay your last respects to Rita.
