Stephen Rumancik Obituary

Stephen George Rumancik

Steve was born on June 26th, 1925 in Heckla, Pennsylvania, USA, son of Jan & Anna Rumancik.  At the age of 1 year the family immigrated to Canada settling in Lipton, SK, where Steve was raised and received his education.  He then helped out with the family farm until May 1944 when he enlisted with the Canadian Army.  He served in Canada until his discharge on April 3rd, 1946.  He then returned to Lipton where he farmed at Lipton and Indian Head.

In 1950 he married Marie Werner and continued to farm at Indian Head until 1962.  They purchased a farm in Beaver, MB and moved the family.  In 1976 he gave up farming,  moved into Portage la Prairie and was employed at the Fort la Reine Museum until his retirement in 1990.

Steve was a member of the Good Shepherd Parish Church and the Knights of Columbus Council 4250.  Steve enjoyed tinkering, especially with electric motors, tv’s and things that people tossed away.  It gave him great enjoyment to fix something that had been thrown out.  He also enjoyed upkeeping his home, yard and especially his garden.

Steve was predeceased by his wife Marie, his sons Larry and Mike as well as his daughter-in-law Judy, his brothers; John, Gilbert, Joe and Phillip and his sister Mary.

He leaves to mourn his passing his sons; Jim (Loralie), Tim (Leah), his daughters; Elizabeth, Margaret and Theresa (Gerald) and daughter-in-law Eileen.  He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
