Doris Irene Kjartanson

     On Wednesday, August 7, 2019, Doris Kjartanson, loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away at the age of 94. Doris was born on November 2, 1924, to David and Edith Jones, of Inwood, Manitoba. She was the youngest of six children.

     Doris moved to Winnipeg at seventeen, finding her path to nursing at the Winnipeg General Hospital. As a natural people person, nursing was a career that she truly enjoyed, and she would speak of it often.

     Doris met Kjartan in 1944, they dated and were married in Nov of 1945. Shortly after marrying Doris and Kjartan purchased a large amount of land to farm, and moved to Amaranth, Manitoba. They had a daughter, Patricia, who also met her husband, Glenn Oswald, in Winnipeg. Patricia and Glenn had a son, Tarak Kjartanson, Doris and Kjartan's only grandson.

     Doris and Kjartan lived and farmed in Amaranth, until Kjartan passed away in 1995. Doris then moved to Portage la Prairie, where she made a new home and was regularly involved with numerous women's, seniors, and church groups. By those who knew her best, Doris will be remembered for her fantastic sense of humor, the way she made us laugh, and her kind heart.

     Left to cherish her memory is her devoted grandson Tarak.   

     A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at 1:00 p.m.  at the Trinity United Church, 15 Tupper St. S, Portage la Prairie, MB. Interment to follow at Beckville Cemetery, Amaranth, MB.  Donations to be made to the charity of one’s choice.
