James Mueller Obituary

James Walter (Jim) Mueller

James Walter (Jim) Mueller, beloved son of Bette and Walter Mueller of Manitou, brother of Terry Mueller of Winnipeg and father of Jaxon Mueller, passed away at his residence on July 8, 2020.

Jim was born in Manitou on September 9, 1970. He attended school, from Kindergarten to Grade 12, in Manitou. He loved sports, including baseball, hockey, golf and badminton. He also loved singing, especially in high school musicals.

After Grade 12, Jim graduated with a Bachelor of Education degree from Brandon University. Jim began his teaching career at Waywayseecappo First Nation. He taught internationally in Thailand and New Zealand. He taught for almost two decades at Portage la Prairie Collegiate, teaching computer skills to senior high students. There, he was also responsible for the publication of the school yearbook and for many years coached students in badminton.

While in Portage, he married a fellow teacher, Donna Mestdagh, and it was in Portage their son Jaxon was born. Although Jim and Donna’s marriage did not last, their joint commitment to Jaxon did.

Jim will be missed by his students and colleagues, as well as his aunts and uncles, his brother Terry, his son Jaxon, his special friend Jennifer, and his parents, Walter and Bette Mueller.

A graveside funeral service will be held at the Manitou Cemetery at 2:00 pm, Monday, July 20. The public is welcome; please bring your own lawn chair and respect social distancing guidelines.

Donations may be made in Jim’s memory to St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, Box 313, Manitou, MB  R0G 1G0 or to the Nellie McClung Heritage Site, Box 189, Manitou, MB  R0G 1G0  (please note that cheques are payable to the Municipality of Pembina).
