Hellen "Ellie" Ruth Carr

     Hellen Ruth Carr (nee Preston) passed away at Portage & District General Hospital on April 21, 2024.

     She was born in Portage la Prairie, MB on October 13, 1961 and lived here for her entire life.  During her childhood and adult years she remained very close to her grandfather, Stanley Preston, until the time of his death.

     After completing her education, Hellen worked in a number of different jobs including; 7-Eleven as a clerk, Portage & District General Hospital for two years and finally Douglas Campbell Lodge for approximately 17 years as a nursing assistant.  It was at these locations that she came to meet each of her current friends with whom she developed, over time, long lasting relationships. 

     In August 1980 she met Charles Christopher Carr and they were married in August 1988.  At the time of her passing, they had been together and happily married for a total of 45 years. 

     Hellen had a number of favourite hobbies.  She especially like to read books written by Danielle Steele.  She also enjoyed gardening and growing plants, knitting, and walking her dog, Gus.  Recently she started a yoga/exercise program.  She found great pleasure in going shopping with her friends to seek out bargains. 

     With her passing, Hellen leaves to mourn her husband Chris, sons Gary Roberts and Glen Roberts, along with four grandchildren of Calgary, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Graham & Gail Carr of Evansville, Wisconsin, USA, nephew Colin (Rachel) Carr of Wauwatosa, WI, USA and her niece Shannon Carr of Madison, WI, USA. 

     Hellen was predeceased by her mother, grandfather, sister Margaret and most recently her father. 

     Hellen was a wonderful person who demonstrated kindness and caring, always being concerned about the welfare of others before herself.  She possessed a heart of gold and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

     A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Omega Funeral Home, 83 Royal Rd. S., Portage la Prairie with Wilma Shirriff officiating.
