Gwen Hogue (nee Tooth)
On Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, Gwen Hogue of Portage la Prairie, beloved wife of Orille Hogue passed away at the age of 83 years.
Some of us knew her as Mrs. Hogue, some of us knew her as Gwennie, others called her Auntie. But no matter what we called her we all loved her.
Gwen was born to Jack and Sarah Tooth and raised in Oakville, Manitoba with her two brothers Stewart & Arthur. She left Oakville to pursue a career in teaching. She received her training at Normal School in 1948 and 1949 and went on to teach in Elm River, Stony Mountain and Winnipeg.
In 1954 she married the love of her life Orille Hogue and spent 57 wonderful years together. They moved to Winnipeg where Gwen spent ten more years teaching before moving to Portage la Prairie. Here she taught at Arthur Meighen, Prince Charles and Yellowquill Schools for the next 17 years.
Gwen sat on the board of Manitoba Teacher’s Society, took up curling and became a Lioness. She loved traveling around the world, with New Zealand being her favorite destination and Kenya (2006) being her most memorable adventure.
Gwen was predeceased by her parents; Jack & Sarah Tooth, brother; Arthur and sister-in-law Louise as well as numerous Hogue in –laws.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Orille, brother; Stewart, sister-in-law; Jean, nephews Glenn (Monique) and Bob (Allison) Tooth and their families, her extended Tooth family, her special friend Linda Sparrow and her Hogue in-laws.
Gwen has left a beautiful legacy of giving unconditional love and knowledge to all who knew her. We will always love her.
“Too-de-loo!”
Funeral service will be held in Trinity United Church 15 Tupper Street South, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at 1:30 pm. Interment will take place at a late date.

When Gwen taught in Stony Mountain she boarded with our family, Allan and Chris Jones, we thought the world of her. That Christmas Gwen and her Mother made it a Christmas never to be forgotten by two little girls. Her mother had sewed two complete wardrobes for the dolls that "Santa" was bringing that year!! The best gift ever! To this day we remember her and her handsome boyfriend ! Our sincere sympathy to her family and friends.

Hi Uncle Orille,
I am thinking of Auntie Gwen with fond memories today over 6 months after she passed away. She lived life to the fullest with you, her best friend and heart''s companion. Truly she was an inspiration and remains so - as are you. The Christmas Rockinghorse still proudly plays at Christmas and the stained glass angels on the wall continue to watch over us.
Love always, Calla
