Hilda Maxine (Myrtle) Nichol

June 4, 1921 - October 6, 2016

            Peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Portage District General Hospital, Hilda Maxine (Myrtle) Nichol beloved wife of the late Gordon Nichol, passed away at the age of 95 years with her family and dear friends, Barbara and Hal Martens by her side.

            Viewing will be held at Omega Funeral Home from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, October 13, 2016.  Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 1:00 PM.  Interment will follow at the family plot at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Reception will follow at the PCU multi purpose room.

             A life long resident of Hood and Poplar Bluff Districts, Mom was born on June 4, 1921, daughter of Fred and Annie Gregory in East Nissori Township, near Kintor, Ontario. She moved to the Hood district at an early age and received her education at Hood School.  In 1941, she married Gordon Nichol of the Poplar Bluff District.  They resided in the Poplar Bluff District and purchased the family farm in 1952.  Mom was actively involved in farming and maintaining a household and raising 4 children. 

            Mom centred her life around working hard and raising her family.  In her earlier years, she enjoyed, playing baseball. Once married she enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning, baking, bowling and travelling with Gordon and family. She especially enjoyed the trips to Las Vegas. She worked as a homemaker, substitute teacher and caretaker. She enjoyed watching her beloved Blue Jays. She loved to drive her four wheel drive half ton and cut the grass at the farm and did so until mid June of this year. Her grand children and great grand children always brought her joy and a big smile.

            Predeceased by her father Fred Gregory and mother Annie and Bob Henry, infant brother Leroy, her husband Gordon and son Douglas, she leaves to mourn her passing her daughter Sharron (Robert) Lee of Chicago, her sons Barrie (Betty Ann) and Harold (Joan)  of Portage and her grandchildren Sherry Loose (Wade) and great granddaughter Emily of Swift Current and Darryl (Carla) and great grand children Suri and Kale of Hinton, Alberta and daughter-in-law Lorraine Lang of Swift Current as well nieces, nephews and cousins.

            Following internment at Hillside Cemetery friends are invited to a celebration of life in the multi purpose room at the PCU Centre on Island Park.

           Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Sunset Palliative Care at the Portage General Hospital.
