Welcome to the memorial page for

Darwin George Reid

October 13, 1970 ~ August 27, 2017 (age 46) 46 Years Old

Darwin George Reid

In the early hours of Sunday August 27, 2017, Kathryn Reid, her sons, Devin (10) and Tristan (7) lost their husband and father….their “rock”.  Darwin George Reid passed away very unexpectedly, leaving a huge emptiness in their lives.

Darwin was born on October 13, 1970 in Arborg, Manitoba.  He spent most of his life in the Macdonald, Portage la Prairie area and most latterly in the community of Westbourne MB.

In addition to Kathryn and the boys, he is survived by his father, Walter James Reid of Portage la Prairie, his sister Glynis of Winnipeg and his niece Megan of Penticton, BC and his nephew John of Vernon, BC.   As well, Darwin’s uncle, Danny Johnson was like a brother to Dar in that he lived with the family for so many years due to a medical condition.  To this day, he and Darwin have shared a very strong and meaningful relationship.  He was predeceased by his beloved mother Lillian Asa Reid (nee Johnson) in 2015.

Also mourning his loss are the extended family in so many locations--many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews…  Darwin had such a significant amount of friends in his life that will miss him for his fun lovin’ personality and his great friendship that enveloped them all.  He was fortunate to have many many best friends and he maintained those relationships for most of his life.   He loved and was loved by so many.

Darwin was a strong loving man whose heart and zest for life was as big as all outdoors.  He was an avid hunter and fisherman and encouraged that lifestyle in his sons.   His strong passion for nature inspired him to share his love for hunting with first time hunters as a youth mentor with Delta Waterfowl.  His loss will be felt by that organization as well and this weekend was the youth hunt in which Darwin and Devin were to participate for Devin’s first time.

Darwin’s work life consisted of a variety of functions over the years.  He worked at PMI in Portage, a truck wash operation in Headingley, and Simplot in Portage.  He also worked in construction in Fort McMurray and most recently was an Assistant Foreman for the RM of Westlake Gladstone region.  Within all of these timeframes, Darwin did not sit still …. He found time to farm and hunt and fish and even commercial fished off and on for a while.

Kathryn, Devin and Tristan were his world.  He adored his wife and children and his devotion was immeasurable.

A memorial service to honour Darwin’s life is to be held at the Westbourne Community Hall off PR 242N at 1:00 pm on Friday September 1, 2017.  Interment to follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a Trust fund for Darwin’s two sons, Devin and Tristan, has been established at Stride Credit Union.  Donations can be made at any Stride Credit Union branch.  Account name: Tristan & Devin Reid Trust.  Email:  reidboystrust@gmail.com    The account has been set up to accept e transfers.
